Pipe Spring National Monument

Pipe Spring National Monument in the Arizona Strip, near the Utah border in Northern Arizona. The ranch was bought from a deceased rancher's wife by Brigham Young to establish a Mormon tithing office. Beginning in 1870 and completed 19 months later, the ranch house was fortified with sandstone-block and included a courtyard in an effort to protect the residents and visitors from Indian attacks, which never happened.
